The Ocean Best PracticesSystem (OBPS), backed by the IOC through IODE and GOOS, provides publication, discovery and access to relevant and tested methods, from observation to application, as well as a foundation for increasing capacity.

As we move to basin-scale ocean observing, efficient and consistent monitoring and predicting of the planet’s ocean is essential. These need common methods for interoperability and reproducibility.

We support the end-to-end best practices value chain for the entire ocean community – sharing methods, developing best practices and capacity for their use. This means sustaining an evolving system that enables collaboration, consensus building and innovation.

Our goal is a future where ocean research, operations and applications methods are agreed and universally adopted.
